Why does Joan Trek for Timor?

Having chosen to participate in the Trek for Timor 5 times, my friend Jude asked me to write a brief paragraph on why I do this – easy I thought, until I thought about all the reasons I do do this and why I’ve signed up again this year.

Bush Lemons for Timor-Leste

Blue Mountains based lesbian bushwalking group Bush Lemons have been staunch supporters of Trek for Timor for more than 10 years. Bush Lemons teams have entered every single Trek in the Blue Mountains and many in Kangaroo Valley, as well as working as committee members, route markers and checkpoint volunteers. They have been major fundraisers for each Trek and in 2018 actually challenged their sponsors that, if they raised more than $5,000, they would wear tutus while they trekked. Did they succeed? Judge for yourself!
