If you’re looking for ideas to raise funds, here are a few suggestions from trekkers and volunteers.
Letter to send to your family, friends and contacts:
On Saturday August 25th I am going to be walking X kms in the Blue Mountains Trek for Timor & I’m seeking your sponsorship – just press on this link http://trekfortimorbm.org.au and then the ‘sponsor a trekker’. My team is X and we really appreciate your encouragement.
Do you want to do something that truly has an impact – by donating money to Trek for Timor you can know you are directly assisting young people to get an education in Hatobuilico and building leadership & skills amongst women in that community.
Research on Foreign Aid demonstrates the best investment is in women & education. 100% of your sponsorship will go directly into projects in this remote part of the world. Blue Mountains has been working here for over 10 years – it’s a community to community relationship which has built friendships, a primary school, established a senior secondary school, developed women’s co-operatives and assisted many other project. You can see the scope of projects here and past successes here http://trekfortimorbm.org.au/?page_id=1194
So while I’m slogging it out on August 25th you can stay on your couch and know you are part of pulling a string to make a strong rope, giving opportunities in a remote little bit of the world & making a big difference to a whole community!
And remember, a lot of people will save donating till the day so think about your texts, Twitter / Facebook / Instagram postings you might send while you are on your Trek
The Mountain Kids teams held a lemonade and cake stall recently and raised a massive $820. You can read all about them here.
And here are some other ideas
- Hold a garage sale – ask your neighbours if they want to donate stuff too
- Have a Cake stall at your school / workplace
- Organise a BBQ at Bunnings – email Mary firstname.lastname@example.org
for Bunnings Community Engagement Officer’s contacts – they provide everything except the sausages
- Ask your workplace to match the funds you raise
- Make a challenge – eg if you help our team raise $3,000 we will wear red feather boas on the Trek (Bush Lemons team has a pink tutu challenge)
And here’s an idea for an encouraging email to send to your family and friends:
“Friend, I am stepping out on the Trek for Timor on the 26th August. Will you support me and East Timorese who need our help? Whether $20, $100, or $1000, all donations are very welcome and tax deductible. Sign up at the Sponsor a Trekker link here http://trekfortimorbm.org.au/”
