Plans for 2018 Funds

  • SUPPORTING PRESCHOOLS, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
  • INCREASING INCOME GENERATION CAPACITY FOR WOMEN
  • GIVING WOMEN A VOICE

One of the things that the Trek organisers (who then need to transition to Timor project planners) learn pretty quickly is that that there is no “quick fix” in developing countries. Tutored through our now long term relationship with the Hatobuilico community, we have learnt that education is the key to change – both for people right now and for the children of the future.

Consequently, we have decided to continue to prioritise supporting the development of education and to ensure that our contribution is spread across the continuum – from preschool to primary to secondary to university and also then on to adult education. We would love to be able to make a huge contribution across all these life stages and see every Hatobuilican maximize their life trajectory. Not possible sadly – but what we can do is to consistently and persistently make our significant contribution to changing lives and opening opportunity through education.

The Blue Mountains is now known and loved for its contribution to education in Hatobuilico.

The 2018 Trek funds will continue to support the development of preschool, primary and secondary schooling, support women who are outside the formal schooling system to increase their capacity to contribute to their communities and their livelihoods.  We plan to support women to have their voices heard within decision making structures, standing alongside men in determining the structures for the future within their community.
